Prof. Kasonde Bowa
Prof Kasonde Bowa is currently Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research) and Executive Dean at the University of LusakaSchool of Medicine and Health Sciences science 2019. He holds the Master of Medicine(Surgery) from University of Zambia, MSc in Anatomy from the University of Glasgow, Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow since 2002. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons since 2005 and a Fellow of the College of Surgeons of East and Central Africa in Urology since 2008. He holds a MPH from the London school of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a Diploma Teaching Methods from the UNILUS. During his postgraduate training he was awarded the Surgical Society Prize as the Best graduating student in Master Medicine (General Surgery) and also the Rahima Dawood Prize for the best graduating student in Urology for the FCS(Uro). He was awarded by the H.E President of Zambia in 2015 the Zambia Medical Association Meritorious awardfor Outstanding Achievement in Medical training in Zambia.
He is the first Zambian Professor of Urology. He was Assistant Dean at the University of Zambia School of Medicine for 6 years, and was Founding Dean of the Copperbelt University school of Medicine for 8 years. He was also Founding Dean of the University of Lusaka School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He was among the Founding Deans of the Consortium of New Medical School of Sub-Saharan Africa in 2011.He has over 100 journal publications, he has an Hirsch index of 21 , and over 1200 citations on research gate. He has over 8 international awards and has had more than 5 international grants. He is Associate Editor of the African Journal of Urology and the African Urology Journal. He is a reviewer for the BMC Urology, ECAJS and Annals of African Medicine.
He has been external examiner at the College of Medicine of Malawi, the University of Namibia and the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) in Zimbabwe, as well as the COSECSA. He was formerly Secretary of the Surgical Society of Zambia and Vice President of the Zambia Medical Association.The National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) awarded him the prize of Male Scientist of the year in 2023.
