Dr. Dorothy Kamya

Dorothy is the Associate Dean of Postgraduate Medical Education at Aga Khan University in Nairobi and serves as an Assistant Professor and Consultant Anaesthetist at Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi.

 

She earned her medical degree from University College London in 1996 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (FRCA, UK) in 2003. Her academic achievements include being named a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA, UK) and receiving the "Top Teacher" award during her fellowship at University College Hospital, London in 2007/2008.

In 2011, Dorothy completed a Master’s degree in Medical Education from Cardiff University, where she was awarded the dissertation prize and earned a distinction for her research. She furthered her education by obtaining an MBA from Strathmore University in 2023.

 

Dorothy is a member of the esteemed Haile T. Debas Teaching Academy and also serves as an external examiner for the Master of Health Professions Education (MHPE) course at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda.

 

As Associate Dean, Dorothy oversees postgraduate specialist medical training at Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi, and leads faculty development initiatives. She has recently contributed to the development and implementation of the undergraduate medical education at Aga Khan University, Nairobi.

 

Dorothy is passionate about nurturing emerging leaders in healthcare and education. An alumnus of the Harvard Kennedy School Executive Leadership Program, she supported the "Adaptive Leadership for Africa in the 21st Century" course in Nairobi as a Leadership Coach.
