
Dr. Ahmed Biyabani
Dr. Ahmed Biyabani is an Associate Teaching Professor in the College of Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University Africa in Kigali, Rwanda. His teaching and research interests range from Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to digital transformation and smart mobility. He has established a new graduate course on AI in Healthcare, and organized workshops bringing together experts working at the intersection of the two fields from across Africa. An initiative he is currently working on aims to use smart sensors, AI, ML, computer vision, and multimodal networks to promote remote medicine and medical training in austere environments. Another seeks to use Lage Language Models (LLMs) for teaching programming and for assisting medical researchers and healthcare professionals.
Dr. Biyabani joins Carnegie Mellon after a career spanning more than two decades in the semiconductor industry in the US and Japan, as well as teaching and management consulting in Saudi Arabia. He has been involved with three technology startups in various roles. He holds a SB in electrical engineering and computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and MS and Ph.D. degrees in electrical and computer engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.
