Prof. Vanessa C Burch

Vanessa Burch, the first woman Chair of Clinical Medicine at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, has more than 30 years’ experience as a clinician-educator and HPE scholar. Currently she is Executive Director of Education and Assessment at the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa. In this position she plays a critical leadership role in all specialist and sub-specialist examinations conducted in South Africa. She holds a PhD in HPE from Erasmus University, Rotterdam, has received numerous awards for academic excellence, four lifetime awards for teaching excellence, and has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and five book chapters. She is also a fellow of the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER) in the USA.
