
Dr. Lawrence Tan
Dr. Lawrence Tan has taught medical students and residents in Africa, Asia, Australia and South America for over 30 years. He is a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Burao. Previously he was a senior lecturer in the Department of General Practice, School of Medicine, Western Sydney University. He graduated in medicine from Sydney University, then specialised in family medicine. He earned a Master of Public Health majoring in education from the University of New South Wales. He has been involved in directing postgraduate family medicine residency training in South America and as a consultant in primary care services for the World Health Organization, Geneva. He has conducted qualitative research on cancer survivorship, patient consultations, and medical education in culturally diverse settings. He loves inspiring students to think critically and adopt a One Health approach when seeing patients with emerging complex health problems.
