Dr. Akwi W Asombang

Dr Akwi W. Asombang is an interventional gastroenterologist in the Division of Gastroenterology at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), and Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. She is the director of the global gastroenterology program at MGH. Her clinical interests are advanced endoscopy, medical education and GI cancers.  She has vast experience of working with medical students, trainees and medical doctors, including participating in selection committees at various institutions and in the training programs.  She is founder of the African Association of Future Gastroenterologist, an organization with the mission to support professional development for gastroenterologists across Africa and promote mentorship, networking, education and capacity building among aspiring gastroenterologists.  She is also the co-founder and Board President of the Pan-African Organization for Health, Education and Research, an organization with a focus on the soundness of the health sectors as the cornerstone of social and economic development for Africa.
