Dr. Salma Abdi Mahmoud

Dr. Salma Abdi Mahmoud is a medical doctor, academic leader, and health systems expert specializing in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, with a PhD in Gynecologic Oncology. She serves as Dean of the School of Health and Medical Sciences at the State University of Zanzibar (SUZA), where she leads strategic initiatives in medical education, research, and institutional development.


She is also the Deputy Secretary General of the Consortium of Medical Schools in Africa (COMS-A), advancing collaboration in medical education, leadership, and research across the continent. Additionally, she serves as Regional Director for the East African Hub of MashUbora, overseeing clinical research and capacity-building initiatives.


Dr. Salma has published extensively in maternal and reproductive health, gynecologic oncology, and health systems strengthening. She is a reviewer for international journals and a member of AGOTA, ECSACOG, and NITAGs. She is committed to improving healthcare quality and promoting gender equity in leadership across Africa.
