Dr. Ornella Masimbi

Dr. Ornella Masimbi, MBBS, MGHD, is Founding Faculty and Head of Simulation & Extended Reality at the University of Global Health Equity (UGHE), Rwanda, within the Center for Transformative Learning Technologies (CTLT). Since launching UGHE’s Simulation Program in 2019, she has led the integration of simulation-based education across the School of Medicine’s programs. Her work focuses on undergraduate medical training, patient safety, and strengthening clinicians’ skills and teamwork in low-resource settings. She leverages simulation, virtual reality, and other immersive technologies to support interprofessional learning and facility-level quality improvement. Through CTLT partnerships, Dr. Masimbi supports in-situ simulation training in rural district hospitals and contributes to regional capacity-building in East Africa, including collaboration with the State University of Zanzibar. She is also working with colleagues to establish the Rwanda Simulation Health Equity Network to advance national collaboration and innovation in healthcare simulation.
