
Simone Titus-Dawson
Simone Titus-Dawson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Professions Education at Stellenbosch University's Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. She earned her PhD in Education from the University of Cape Town, where she developed her expertise in leveraging emerging technologies as tools for educational transformation. At the intersection of health innovation and education, her research advances both global and continental priorities, including UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 3 and 4) and the African Union's Agenda 2063 aspirations for well-educated citizens and improved healthcare through science, technology, and innovation. As a recipient of the prestigious Black Academic Advancement Programme, she leads research on technology-enhanced learning, including the application of game-based learning as well as augmented and virtual reality in Health Professions Education. Her work emphasizes creating inclusive and sustainable learning spaces, with special attention to fostering cross-cultural interaction and engagement. Her cross-disciplinary background spans health and social sciences domains, including gender studies, management, and health professions education. She has contributed to international initiatives such as the EU-funded "Caring Societies" project focused on Health and Lifestyle Programmes.
Her expertise in digital education is recognised through various leadership roles, including serving as the Western Cape Region executive member of the Southern African Association for Health Educationalists (SAAHE) and as convenor of its Learning with Technology Special Interest Group (SIG). She actively contributes to the Digital Dialogue project team for the Higher Education, Learning and Teaching Association of Southern Africa (HELTASA).
