Prof. Gloria Ashuntantang-Some

Professor Gloria Enow Ashuntantang-Some is a consultant nephrologist at the Yaounde General Hospital and Professor of Medicine at the University of Yaounde I in Cameroon. She holds an MB; BS degree (University of Ibadan, Nigeria), Specialization in internal medicine (University of YaoundeI), Diplôme de Médecin Spécialiste en néphrologie and an MD degree (University of Geneva, Switzerland). Her main areas of research are End Stage Kidney Disease care in sub-Saharan Africa and ethical challenges of providing care for patients with chronic kidney disease in sub-Saharan Africa. She is currently working on the impact of universal health coverage on the outcomes of patients on maintenance haemodialysis in Cameroon, and the Social determinants of health in children and adolescents with Chronic kidney disease in the same country.


She has co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed papers and three textbook chapters and has mentored over 30 fellows in internal medicine and nephrology with 02 of them full professors today. She is the founding president of the Cameroon Society of Nephrology, first female and Past President of the African Association of Nephrology(AFRAN), past Executive Committee member of the ISN (international Society of Nephrology), past deputy-chair of ISN-Africa regional board, past Chair of the ISN-Africa regional board, and past member of the Executive Committee of KDIGO (Kidney disease improving global outcomes). She is the past Vice-Dean of Students Affairs at the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, University of Yaounde 1, and currently the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Bamenda in Cameroon. She is a distinguished Fellow of the European Renal Association, Knight of the Cameroon Order of Valour and Officer of the Cameroon Order of Valour.
