Prof. Emile Rwamasirabo

Emile Rwamasirabo is a Clinical Professor of Urology (UR), a surgeon educator, and a healthcare manager with over 40 years of local and international leadership experience in healthcare and higher education. With more than 35 years of surgical experience in urology across France and Africa, he has also spent 31 years teaching urology at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. From 2004 to 2009, he served as Rwanda's Ambassador to Japan.

 

He has held several leadership roles, including Chief Executive Officer of King Faisal Hospital, Rector of the National University of Rwanda, and Director General of the University Teaching Hospital. Additionally, he taught urology at Makerere University, was the urology residency program promoter at the University of Rwanda and was the urology fellowship head at the College of Surgeons of East, Central, and Southern Africa (COSECSA).

 

He also chaired the Rwanda Medical and Dental Council and the Rwanda Surgical Society and was involved in various projects like the Rwanda National Surgical, Obstetric, and Anesthesia Plan (NSOAP) and led the revision of the 2022 Rwanda Standard Treatment Guidelines and Essential Medicines List. He is currently the Vice-President of the Rwanda Agency for Accreditation and Quality Healthcare (RAAQH).
