Abraham Haileamlak Mitike

Abraham Haileamlak Mitike is the Principal of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Rwanda and a distinguished professor of pediatrics and child health/ Pediatric Cardiologist, with over 30 years of experience in health system and higher education. He holds a medical degree and specialization in pediatrics from Addis Ababa University and did fellowship in pediatric cardiology at Wolfson Medical Center in Israel. From 2000 to 2018, he served in various roles at Jimma University, including Editor-in-Chief of the Ethiopian Journal of Health Sciences (2006-2023).


Abraham has published over 100 peer-reviewed research articles and served as a Principal Investigator for numerous projects. He has held advisory roles in Ethiopia's Ministry of Health and earned prestigious awards, including an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Oslo and Ethiopia’s Extraordinary Lifetime Contribution Award in 2015 from Ethiopian Ministry of Health and Pediatrician of the year award (2013) by the Ethiopian Pediatric Society. His international engagements include membership in the ICMJE, WAME, and Pan-African Society of Cardiology.
